
On February 11, 2023, the Sri Lankan community in the UAE gathered at Zabeel Park in Dubai, United Arab Emirates to celebrate Sri Lankan Day in parallel to the 75th Independence Day of Sri Lanka. The event organized by the Counsel General office for Dubai and Northern Emirates was ably supported by several Sri Lankan community organisations which also included the Sri Lankan Professionals Associations in the UAE. The event was seen as a huge success in terms of participation and quality of output and exhibited a very vibrant celebration of Sri Lankan culture and heritage.
The event was inaugurated by the Counsel General of Dubai and Northern Emirates Hon Mr. Nalinda Wijeratna who emphasised the importance of cultural exchange, cohabitation, mutual understanding, and respect between communities as well as nations. The member organizations of the Sri Lankan Professionals Associations in the UAE (SLPA UAE) contributed significantly towards the successful organisation of the event, with members volunteering their time and resources to ensure that it was a success and participating in large numbers under the SLPA UAE banner.
The day was filled with a range of activities that showcased the country’s rich cultural heritage & traditions. Traditional Sri Lankan music and dance performances captivated the audience with their energy and vibrancy. Visitors were also treated to an array of delicious cuisine typifying a truly Sri Lankan atmosphere.
The Sri Lankan Day celebration was a testament to the strong sense of community and cultural pride that exists within the Sri Lankan community in the UAE. The event successfully highlighted the importance of preserving and celebrating cultural diversity and promoting cross-cultural exchange and understanding.
